KOTA KINABALU: Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Ministry branch office here seized more than RM80,000 worth of what are believed to be counterfeit Louis Vuitton goods from nine premises in the city.
Sabah chief enforcement officer Suhaimi Mat Sari said the Louis Vuitton distributor had lodged a complaint with the ministry on the premises that sell fake Louis Vuitton goods.
He said a team of enforcement officers and the company’s representative carried out raids on six premises at a shopping mall that were believed to have sold the fake goods in the city last Wednesday.
Among the goods confiscated were woman handbags, purses, wallets, belts, shoes, phone casing, bracelets, hair clips and earrings worth RM57,350.
The ministry conducted another raid on three premises at Alam Mesra, Putatan and Segama on Thursday, which led to the seizure of RM23,553 worth of fake Louis Vuitton goods, including cloths printed with the brand logo.
Suhaimi said the confiscated goods from the nine premises were worth a total of RM80,903.
He said the case would be investigated under Section 8 of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011.
An organisation will face a fine up to RM15,000 for every counterfeit product or fine not more than RM30,000 for its second offence; while an individual will be fined not more than RM10,000 for every counterfeit product sold or face a jail term up to three years, or both.
